Our culture’s stigmatization of female bodies has long shrouded the experience of intimacy with ourselves in shame, making it difficult for many of us to connect with our bodies fully. Whether you grew up giving your genitals nicknames, being told off from even looking at them, or being forbidden from asking questions or exhibiting any curiosity about this part of your body, this might sound familiar to you too. 

This shame and disconnection can have numerous negative impacts on our lives. It can lead to a sense of disempowerment, low self-esteem, and even physical health issues. It can even make us less likely to enforce boundaries with others. In contrast, deepening intimacy with the body can be incredibly empowering and transformative, playing a crucial part in our mental, emotional, and sexual wellbeing. 1. Look at your vulva with a mirror.

2. Use an intimacy product.

3. Take a sensual bath.
